Workers' Compensation
IF YOU ARE INJURED DURING AN ISI EVENT:
1. Seek Medical Attention FIRST and then notify your supervisor/team.
2. ​Then on the first workday following the injury, when possible, contact the Home Office at

Emergencies & Workers' Compensation FAQs

What is Workers' Compensation and who is eligible:
  • ​A person who is eligible for workers' compensation must be employed by ISI.  
  • Students and volunteers are under the umbrella of liability insurance.
  • Workers' compensation is a helpful insurance for injuries that happen to an employee (not volunteers) while working for International Students, Inc.
  • Please note that Ministry Representatives are considered volunteers for ISI and are not eligible for Workers’ Compensation.   
  • We want this to be a blessing and helpful tool while you work for ISI.
  • We are a Colorado - based company in the USA and thus, are required to file a First Report of Injury with our Workers' Compensation insurance.
  • This is where the Workers' Compensation claim will start, even though an employee may live outside of the state in which the injury occurred.
  • We have a link in the next section to the First Report of Injury that you may view. People Services will work with you to fill out this information. 
STEPS TO FOLLOW IF AN employee is injured while working for isi:
STEP ONE: 
FIRST! If an employee is injured during an ISI event, please seek immediate medical attention.
  1. Notify the ISI Home Office within 3 days or 72 hours of the incident or sooner, if possible.
  2. Please contact the ISI Home Office at (719) 576-2700 and/or email peopleservices@isionline.org with the necessary information as stated below.  This information help People Services fill out a form called "First Report of Injury". You may click on the link below to view this form.  There is no need to fill out the First Report of Injury Form as People Services will complete the form with you.
  3. VIEW/SEE: downloadable PDF for the First Report of Injury.  People Services will complete this form with you and for you.  ​   
  • Your name and contact information
  • Date and time, place of injury and detailed report of your injury/injuries that might include details such as left knee, right shoulder, neck, lacerations, stitches, etc. 
  •  Physician/Hospital  that you went to for medical attention. Please include name of Hospital/ER/Urgent Care facility, attending physician’s name, address of the facility you went to, and phone number.
  • Witnesses:  If there were any witnesses, their name and contact information, if possible.
STEP TWO:
  1. ISI will contact you by the next business day to complete the First Report of Injury Form and go over next steps with you.  
  2. People Services will file the completed First Report of Injury Form with the appropriate insurance carrier.
  3. Once ISI completes the forms with you, the insurance company will contact you with your claim number and explain the next steps. ​
WHAT HAPPENS IF A STUDENT OR VOLUNTEER IS INJURED DURING AN ISI EVENT?​
This situation is not covered under workers' compensation insurance; 
however, it may be covered under our Liability Insurance,

do I need an emergency response plan for ISI employees? 
  • Yes, talking with your team about these possibilities will help you react with purpose and not panic.
  • The Emergency Response Plan should be comprehensive for all events or activities.
  • This plan should include procedures for who, when, what, why and how you and your team will respond to medical and other types of emergencies.
  • It is best to be prepared for every situation.
